New Dawn Sponsored Children
The main purpose of sponsorship is to ensure children have access to an education.
For many of our children, education is the key to them breaking out of the poverty cycle. Many of their parents have never completed education, and live hand to mouth as subsistence farmers. This is why education is our focus. We want to ensure that those growing up with disadvantages have the opportunity to succeed and a hope that they may not otherwise have, and the support they so desperately need.
Uniform and School Supplies
Every sponsored child is provided with a school uniform, including shoes. Schoolastic materials, such as books and pens, are also provided.
Saturday Sessions
We hold weekly Saturday sessions with the children. The first half of the session encompasses reading the Bible, singing gospel songs and prayers. This is followed by lunch, and the rest of the session is games. This is a wonderful time for many children to come together to feel like they belong somewhere and feel loved. Many are from broken families so this is so important for their mental wellbeing, as well as their spiritual growth.
New Dawn provides a home and a family for them, and many of them never want to leave!
Health and Social support
Our sponsored children receive access to healthcare whenever they require. Healthcare in Uganda is not free, so this is a huge help to our children, who may not have otherwise been able to access the help they need.
Our children also receive regular visits by our social worker at home to ensure they are being cared for appropriately and to address any concerns.
Meet Moses
Before being sponsored, Moses had lost his dad. Living at home with his mother, he was unable to go to school as she couldn't afford to pay for school fees or the necessary resources. Moses first started being sponsored in 2015 and is now about to finish primary school here at New Dawn. He is currently top of a class and is aiming for a Division 1 in his Primary Exams. Moses is a very responsible boy and example to many in the community. Had Moses not have been sponsored, it would have been likely that he would not have received any education and had no hope for the future.
