Who We Are and How we Began

In 2005, seeing a lot of hopelessness and poverty in Butiru village, God put a need on our hearts to help change lives  and transform mindsets. We pondered on how best we can help a village so broken. So in 2006, Knowledge Facilitator’s Uganda was founded. It began as charity to help children in the village who were subject to high levels of school dropout and early pregnancies. There was a sense of hopelessness in the existing education system in the village, so many parents did not see the point in sending their children to school. We started it as volunteer tutoring group to try and help them pass their national exams but we discovered that the intervention was a bit too late. Instead, we turned or attention towards setting up a vocational school, teaching tailoring and carpentry to the dropouts and young mothers. This was a great success, as it gave people skills to earn a living which they otherwise would not have, but did not address the root of the problem. In 2013, we resolved to start a nursery school to help address the numeracy and literacy levels, so children had a better foundation before starting primary school. The nursery school has now evolved into a primary school due to the quality of education and commitment our teachers are putting in. The community really loves the school and very involved in it as they feel it gives the kids a better chance in life.
